چکیده

observed Changes Surface Globally, as well as in the tropics, the temperature of the air near the Earth’s surface has increased since 1958, with a greater rate of increase since 1979. All three surface temperature data sets are consistent in these conclusions. • Globally, temperature increased at a rate of about 0.12oC per decade since 1958, and about 0.16oC per decade since 1979. • In the tropics, temperature increased at a rate of about 0.11oC per decade since 1958, and about 0.13oC per decade since 1979. • Most, if not all of the surface temperature increase since 1958 occured starting around the mid-1970s, a time coincident with a previously identified abrupt climate shift. However, there does not appear to be an abrupt rise in temperature at this time, rather the major part of the rise seems to occur in a more gradual fashion.

CHAPTER 4. Measures To Improve Our Understanding of Weather and Climate Extremes. Weather and Climate Extremes in a Changing Climate. Regions of Focus: North America, Hawaii, Caribbean, and U.S. Pacific Islands

117 In this chapter we identify areas of research and activities that can improve our understanding of weather and climate extremes. Many of these research areas and activities are consistent with previous reports, especially the CCSP SAP 1.1 report, Temperature Trends in the Lower Atmosphere: Steps for Understanding and Reconciling Differences, on reconciling temperature trends between the sur...

Temperature Trends in the Lower Atmosphere - Understanding and Reconciling Differences

Temperatures Vary Vertically The global temperature profile of the Earth’s atmosphere reflects a balance between the radiative, convective and dynamical heating/cooling of the surface-atmosphere system. Radiation from the Sun is the source of energy for the Earth’s climate, with most of it absorbed at the surface. Combined with the physical properties of the atmosphere and dynamical processes, ...

Temperature Trends in the Lower Atmosphere - Understanding and Reconciling Differences

Surface It is likely that errors in the homogenized surface air temperature data do not contribute substantially to the large-scale differences between trends for different levels because these errors are very likely to be smaller than those for the upper air data. • Systematic local biases in surface trends may exist due to changes in station exposure or instrumentation over land, and due to t...

Periodicity of Downward Longwave Radiation at an Equatorial Location

A good understanding of the diverse mechanisms in the atmosphere is required in modelling the climate. In this study, the diurnal and seasonal patterns of all-sky downward longwave radiation (DLR) at Ilorin (8o 32l N, 4o 34l E), Nigeria were investigated alongside relative humidity (RH) and temperature. The average diurnal pattern of DLR gives an arc that begins by increasing gradually with som...

The Analysis and modeling of widespread anomalies of rainfall in entire West of Iran in relation with the behaviors of Mediterranean Pressure centers

Climate control centers in each area are diverse and understanding how they relate to the atmospheric components of the Earth's surface contribute to prediction of climate fluctuations.   In this study, by using Pearson's correlation and multivariate regression in a thirty-year period (1961-2010), the relationship between widespread rainfall anomalies in entire of Iran west with temperature a...
